About the City of Las Vegas

In the early 1800’s, traders followed the old Spanish Trail seeking to shorten their route to Los Angeles by searching for a source of cool water in the blistering desert. An oasis was indeed discovered and given the name “Las Vegas,” meaning “The Meadows.”

From these humble beginnings as a forlorn watering hole, Las Vegas has grown to become one of the most vibrant, exciting and famous cities in the world. It is now a must stop on the vacation itinerary of millions of the globe’s travelers, offering an international airport, world class resorts and restaurants, outstanding golf courses, an exhilarating motor speedway, wedding chapels, renowned entertainment and concerts, the world’s most glamorous casinos, and beautiful weather in which to enjoy them all!

Additionally, locals and visitors alike can find outdoor recreation at nearby Lake Mead. Formed in the 1930’s by the construction of Hoover Dam, Lake Mead is the country’s largest non-natural lake. As one of the seven man-made wonders of the world, Hoover Dam is a destination unto itself, with tours available daily. If escape from the summertime heat is desired, the bristlecone pines of cool Mt. Charleston are only a short drive to the northwest. In the winter, Mt. Charleston also offers skiing at the Lee Canyon Ski Area. Hiking and biking are only minutes away as well in the beautiful Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Las Vegas is known as the gaming capital of the world.  However there are also many non-gaming industries which have found a home in Las Vegas due to an abundant work force, favorable climate and the welcome absence of state income taxes.

And now, too, thousands of individuals every month choose to make Las Vegas their home. Las Vegas offers beautiful, master planned communities, parks and sporting facilities, great shopping, a bustling economy with a wealth of jobs, and plenty of recreational diversion. Yet with all that Las Vegas has to offer, housing is still very affordable.  It is the ideal place to live, work, and play.
